Several members of North Shore Law have, for many years, unwound from the stresses of work by diligently paddling in dragon boats twice weekly, in weather fair and foul (the foul weather practices of this last winter being particularly foul indeed). The efforts of all members of the Deep Cove Perfect Catch were recently rewarded with a well-earned bronze medal at the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Regatta. Congratulationss to the whole team, and in particular to North Shore Law members Kathie Smith, Cindy Hird and Karin Bews. Well done ladies! Evidence that Team Captain Kathie Smith was executing her job well at the regatta was produced not only by the hardware the team brought home, but also by the fact that Kathie was barely able to speak audibly for a few days post-race, due to strained vocal chords.
From sea excursions to land excusions. North Shore Law members Megan McConnell, Rod McLellan and Abigail Wiley have been hosting events to raise sponsorship funds for their participation in the upcoming Ride to Conquer Cancer, which will see them pedal from Vancouver to Seattle. We have enjoyed purchasing fabulous baked goods (courtesy of several talented and charitable in-house bakers) and a well-received lunch of chicken tikka masala and beef madras, home made by Rod. We look forward to contributing further to their sponsorship funds by purchasing pulled pork sandwiches and 50/50 tickets one day later this month – an event they have opened to all tenants of 171 West Esplanade. Thanks to our building neighbours A&W (Corporate Office) for their donation of the classic A&W Root Beer to accompany the pulled pork and coleslaw. While Megan, Rod and Abigail may be getting more fit while training for the ride, those of us merely supporting them by buying their offered baked goods and delicious lunches – are most definitely not (but what’s a few pounds for a good cause?).
